NTDC Foster/ Adoption Training
Foster Care and Adoptive Care Pre-Service Training and Resources Region III
The Pre-service component of the NTDC Foster and Adoptive Care training was adapted for West Virginia. Pre-service training consists of 21 hours of training, generally done over a seven week time period (or 3.5 weeks when done on Saturdays).
The goals of Foster Parent Training are:
- To meet the multiple needs of children placed in foster and adoptive families.
- To strengthen families (whether they be kinship, foster, adopted, blended or members of a tribe or clan).
- Strengthen the quality of family foster care and adoptive services through standardization of training, assessment and on-going professional development.
- To share resources among public and voluntary child welfare agencies, universities, foster parent associations, and national child welfare organizations.
“We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked, and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for is the greatest poverty.” • Mother Teresa
