Faculty Scholarship Fund
Purpose
The Scholarship Fund was established for the purpose of awarding scholarships to full-time and part-time Shepherd University students or incoming first year students who are the dependents, relatives, or spouses of full-time and adjunct faculty. The scholarships will be used exclusively by the student recipients for University expenses in pursuit of Shepherd University degrees.
Management
The Faculty Senate Scholarship and Awards Committee is responsible for raising monies for the Fund and for selecting the recipients of the scholarships. The monies for the Fund will be deposited with the Shepherd University Foundation for investment. The Scholarship and Awards Committee membership, as specified in the Senate bylaws, includes two voting faculty representatives from each College, serving a two-year term, a voting chair(s), and three non-voting members including the Provost, the Foundation Executive Vice-President, and a representative from the McMurran Scholars Association.
Criteria for Application and Selection
All full-time and part-time Shepherd University students or incoming freshmen who are the dependents, relatives, or spouses of full-time and adjunct faculty may apply for the scholarship, which may be used for books, fees, tuition, or other expenses directly related to expenses incurred attending Shepherd University. Applicants must meet admission requirements as stated in the current University catalog. Selection of recipients will be based upon:
- Letter from applicant stating why he/she is applying for scholarship;
- Two letters of recommendation;
- Cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.5 or better;
- Enrollment or acceptance at Shepherd University for the upcoming fall semester; and
- Completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for a need preferred assessment
Procedures
- The Scholarships and Awards Committee will publish scholarship procedures and deadlines by the end of February of each academic year.
- Applicants must be enrolled or accepted at Shepherd University for the upcoming fall semester and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a renewal application at www.fafsa.ed.gov by March prior to the fall semester.
- Permission is granted by the applicant to the Committee to obtain eligibility information from the Financial Aid Office, the Admissions Office, and the Registrar’s Office by the applicant’s application for the scholarship.
- The applicant will provide documentation confirming the relationship with the Shepherd University faculty member, if needed.
- The Committee will process applications and determine awards in May. The Scholarship & Awards Committee will notify the student(s) of the award(s).
- Scholarships must be reapplied for each year.
