SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s education honor society, the Delta Psi Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), has launched a social media campaign on Instagram to honor teachers who are going above and beyond as education faces challenges due to COVID-19.

“We understand how difficult the transition to online learning has been, so our goal for this page is to show our teachers and professors that we support them and appreciate everything they do,” said Grace Wolford, an elementary education major from Williamsport, Maryland.

The Instagram page, _teacherheroes, contains photos or artwork, each with the name of a teacher and a brief description of what he or she has done to make learning more attainable during these difficult times. Wolford said anyone can send a direct message with the name of a teacher they would like to nominate and why they would like that person to be recognized. Nominees can include teachers from any public or private school, college, or university.

“We would like to honor as many educators as we can,” Wolford said. “After a teacher or professor is nominated, we then create a post about them and use our hashtag #teacherheroes. Anyone who looks up this hashtag will see our posts.”

To nominate a teacher, send a direct message on the _teacherhero Instagram page, or send an email to Wolford at gwolfo0@rams.shepherd.edu.
