SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War is hosting a talk by Dr. Jill Ogline Titus titled “The Battlefield Belongs to the Nation: Commemorating the 100th anniversary of Gettysburg” on Thursday, March 10, from 7-8:15 p.m. in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education auditorium.

Titus is the author of “Gettysburg 1963,” which uses one of America’s most famous small towns as a lens to explore social and political change during the 1960s. As the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, takes the spotlight for the centennial of arguably the best-known battle of the Civil War, civil unrest ruled the United States. Titus’ book highlights the similarities between the United States of 1863 and the nation 100 years later.

Titus’ talk is free and open to the public; a book signing will follow.

Titus is associate director of the Civil War Institute at Gettysburg College and co-coordinator of the college’s public history minor.
