SHEPHERDSTOWN, WVThis event has been postponed to April 13.

The Shepherd University School of Music will host a visitation day on Monday, March 30, that is open to transfer students and all high school seniors and juniors who are thinking about pursuing a degree in music at Shepherd. Students will attend classes, meet the music faculty and current students, visit with representatives from the admissions office, hear ensemble rehearsals and performances, have lunch in the Dining Hall, and take a guided campus tour. It will be an opportunity for students to live a “day in the life” of a Shepherd music student and learn about the audition and application process. Interested parents are also welcome to attend. There is no charge to participate.

Shepherd offers three music degrees, a Bachelor of Music in Performance (B.M.P.), a Bachelor of Music Education (B.M.E.), and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in music. Shepherd’s School of Music has a mission to challenge its students to reach their potential by providing extraordinary experiences. Music majors have many performance opportunities, including four choirs, wind ensemble, wind symphony, orchestra, chamber groups, two jazz bands, an opera every year, and marching band.

Shepherd music students have the opportunity to study with experienced performers and educators in the region. Master classes are regularly offered with nationally acclaimed guest artists. Shepherd music students are invited to perform at a number of venues, and have appeared at Giant’s Stadium, the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, in cathedrals around the world, as well as Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The Jazz Ensemble and members of the vocal ensembles have toured England and the Wind Ensemble and Chamber Choir have toured Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Spain, Paris, the Côte d’Azur, and Monte Carlo. Shepherd’s School of Music has participated in the Alba International Music Festival and toured Milan, Torino, Pisa, Cremona, Cinque Terre, and Rome. The music school toured Spain and Portugal in 2018 and plans to tour New York City this March.
