Shepherd University dual enrollment students receive scholarships

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Sixteen area high school students are receiving some financial help for classes they have been taking at Shepherd University as dual enrollment students this fall thanks to a $3,500 grant from the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation Berkeley County Industrial Park Development Fund.

The Shepherd University Dual Enrollment Program offers simultaneous high school and college credit for students attending a high school in Jefferson County and Berkeley County, West Virginia, St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown, Maryland, or are studying at an accredited homeschool program.

Students receiving scholarships are Justice Brown, Ryelee Brussell, Jacqueline Cooper, and Kyle Stern from Hedgesville High School; Maya Goj-Smolec, Olivia Hampton, Shelby Henson, and Reece Merceruio from Martinsburg High School; Chloe Good, Kyra King, Zakkary Moss, and Coralee Newcomb from Musselman High School; and Racquelle Custer, Alicia Glaves, Ann Ofoegbu, and Alyssa Rider from Spring Mills High School.

These 16 students will each receive $218.75 when they successfully complete their fall semester courses and finals. The fall semester officially comes to an end on Friday, December 10.

Since its inception in 1995, EWVCF has awarded more than $10 million in grants and scholarships and has become one of the leading grant makers in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
