The Above and Beyond Award goes to a staff member who has often exceeded standard expectations to assist people and accomplish goals. By being positive and productive, she helps to make Shepherd a great place to work. The winner of the 2023 Above and Beyond Award is Jennifer Sirbaugh, Laboratory Technician for the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Jenn has shown strong leadership in keeping the science labs safe for students, faculty and staff. She is diligent in performing high quality work and she always is happy to help others. Jenn confidently takes on challenging projects and resolves problems – all the while, showing kindness in everything she does. She goes out of her way to find time to assist faculty members as they prepare for their courses, including helping them find supplies and materials. Jenn truly has gone above and beyond!
The Excellent Service to Students Award distinguishes a staff member who has been especially supportive of Shepherd students. They have shown that they value students by serving them enthusiastically and capably. The 2023 Excellent Service to Students Award was presented to Christina Reich, Director of Academic Advising.
Christina is known to create a supportive environment so that students feel at ease. She helps them understand their options and empowers them to make the best decisions possible for their college experience and beyond. Christina trains advisors, serves on several committees, and provides professional and compassionate support to students. She treats students with dignity and generosity. Her collaborative and giving nature has earned her the respect of her colleagues. Christina consistently provides excellent service to students!
The Making a Difference Award is given to a staff member who has demonstrated a commitment to inclusivity, social justice, diversity and equity. This is someone who has been a change agent working to improve the well-being of the Shepherd University community. Chase Molden, Theater Technology Director, is the winner of the 2023 Making a Difference Award.
Chase has a reputation of having a great work ethic and being patient, kind and understanding. He works with students, faculty and staff, supporting theater and music programs and those who use the Frank Center and Marinoff Theater for events. Chase is good at trouble shooting when something goes wrong. He has earned trust in his strong technical skills and abilities and his dedication to the success of the students and programs in his area. The important work that Chase does makes a difference to Shepherd’s students and employees!
The Ram Spirit Award is for a staff member who exemplifies long term, passionate dedication to Shepherd University, and who has been a Shepherd employee for at least five years. Donna Shipley, HR Information Systems Specialist, was awarded the 2023 Ram Spirit Award.
For 17 years, Donna has acquired so much institutional knowledge that she seems to be able to help employees with any issue they may have. In addition to her considerable technical expertise, Donna is known for her friendly and customer service focused personality. She is a good listener and competent problem solver and she has a wonderful sense of humor. Donna also is a huge Shepherd sports fan; rarely does she miss a football or basketball game. Donna is enthusiastic and passionate about Shepherd and she demonstrates Ram Spirit every day!
