SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — A Shepherd University student received honorable mention in the undergraduate poster presentation category during the 91st annual meeting of the West Virginia Academy of Sciences. Preetha Phillips, a biology major from Merrick, New York, won for her work titled “The Effects of Roundup and its Constituents on Steroid Hormone Levels in the Snail Lymnaea palustris.”
“Traveling to the annual West Virginia Academy of Science meeting is a great experience for our student researchers,” said Dr. Carol Plautz, associate professor of biology. “They find out what it is like to prepare an oral presentation or a poster for a scientific meeting, make the trip, and have the thrill (and sometimes anxiety too) of presenting their work in front of students and faculty from across the state.”
More than 30 students and faculty from Shepherd’s School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics attended the meeting, which took place April 9 at Marshall University.
