SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — A Shepherd University alumnus is exhibiting his work at the Toledo Museum of Art’s Glass Pavilion in Toledo, Ohio, August 12-September 8. Ben Schonberger, who is the Toledo Museum of Art’s August Guest Artist Pavilion Project resident, will also present a free book signing and lecture August 12, 2016, at 7 p.m. in the GlasSalon.
The exhibit, titled “Beautiful Pig,” is based on Schonberger’s first book which was published in 2014. It focuses on photographs and memorabilia collected by former Detroit police officer Marty Gaynor during the late 20th century. Schonberger selected and arranged the photos and other documents, then had Gaynor write comments about them. The Toledo exhibit is the first in which the collection will be shown in its entirety.
Schonberger, who holds a B.F.A. in photography and computer imagery from Shepherd and an M.F.A. in photography from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan, is a visiting professor of photography at the University of Akron.
