SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — As part of its free lecture series, the Scarborough Society of Shepherd University will sponsor a program featuring author and alumnus Stephen K. Logston on Thursday, April 12, at 7 p.m. in the Scarborough Library Reading Room. The program is free and open to the public. A dessert reception will follow the lecture.
Logston will discuss his debut book, “Even Her Tears Were Yellow,” which recounts the short but inspiring life of his stepdaughter, Chelsea Lingenfelter, as she battled hepatocellular carcinoma. Chelsea passed away in 2013 during a liver transplant surgery.
Written to promote better organ donation awareness, Logston’s memoir describes Chelsea’s struggles and perseverance throughout her illness, as well as the special bond she shared with her mother and stepfather.
Logston, a retired public educator, spent 35 years teaching in Wellsville, Ohio. He wrote “Even Her Tears Were Yellow” following his retirement and will release his first novel this year.
A native of Chester, Logston graduated from Shepherd in 1975. He and his wife, Joni, now live in Highlandtown, Ohio, where they continue to promote organ donation awareness.
The Scarborough Society is a friends of the library organization sponsored by the Shepherd University Foundation. Annual membership dues help support library acquisitions, technology, and programs. Membership is open to all interested supporters of the Scarborough Library.
