SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Facilities Management Department is raising awareness of cancer throughout October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, by wearing pink shirts every Friday.

Matt Ware, assistant director for grounds and custodial services, said the gesture is meant to offer support to those affected by breast and other forms of cancer.

“It’s a small way of showing our support to breast cancer survivors and survivors of other forms of cancer and to remember those we have lost,” Ware said. “Hopefully, one day cancer will be a word that can be taken out of the dictionary.”

About 50 employees are participating, and Facilities Management is asking other departments on campus to join in by wearing pink on Fridays in October.
