SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Community Music program is offering early childhood music summer classes with Frauke Higgins for five weeks beginning June 25. The classes will take place Tuesdays, June 25, and July 2, 9, 16, and 23 at the Frank Center. Tuition is $70.
Students will learn the rudiments of music, including rhythm, tempo, and melodic movement, by working on children’s songs from around the world, stories, and movement to music. They will play rhythm and Orff instruments and explore summer sounds such as bumble bees, frogs, and birds, sing echo songs, and learn simple circle dances.
The classes offered will include:
- Musical Discoveries, 9:15-10 a.m. for ages 18 months-3 years (with parent/caregiver)
- Music for Preschoolers, 10-10:45 a.m., for ages 3-5 years (with parent/caregiver)
- Dalcroze Eurythmics/Intro to Piano, 11-11:45 a.m. for ages 5-8 years
