SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Lectures & Libations returns to the Town Run Tap House and Community Pub, 202 East Washington St., on Sunday, September 29, at 5 p.m. with two speakers, followed by a question and answer session. The event is free and open to the public.
The speakers will be Shannon Holliday, coordinator for students in transition and director of Shepherd’s First-Year Experience, and Craig Cline, director of the social work program. Holliday’s talk will be titled “Common Threads: 13 Years of Literary Deep-Dives with the Common Reading Program,” and Cline’s talk will be titled “Achieving Social Justice for Drug-affected Infants.”
“Both of our speakers come from different areas of expertise and will offer the community an eclectic, lively, and thought-provoking experience,” said Dr. Matthew Kushin, a member of the L&L committee, which organizes the events.
This Lectures & Libations will feature a special topic-inspired light snack menu, which will be available for purchase during an intermission between speakers. The Tap House kitchen closes at 4:30 p.m., so those wanting to order other food will need to arrive early. Beverages will be available for purchase throughout the event.
Lectures & Libations is a speaker series that aims to build a dynamic, engaging platform for Shepherd University professors to share their passion for learning outside the walls of academia and to serve as a bridge between the university and community.
“This past academic year was our first hosting Lectures & Libations and we were thrilled with the community’s response at all three events,” said Brad Hamann, assistant professor of graphic design and one of the event planners. “With more than 80 people in attendance at each event last spring, we knew there would be a thirst for a new lineup of exciting speakers this year. We have some new, exciting things in the works.”
