SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University will host a President’s Lecture on Tuesday, October 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education featuring Dr. Linton Wells II, who will give a talk titled “Social, Economic, and Security Implications of the 4th Industrial Revolution.” The event is free and open to the public.
Wells, who is managing partner of Wells Analytics LLC, will discuss how disruptive technologies affect social, economic, and security factors and their impact on society in our fourth industrial revolution.
Wells is executive advisor for the C4I and Cyber Center at George Mason University. His areas of interest are Cybersecurity, C4 and open source ISR in civil-military environments, improving civil-military interactions, technology convergence across biotech-robotics-information-nanotech-energy, smart cities, critical infrastructure protection, and security implications of the societal impacts of AI and automation.
Wells is a visiting distinguished research fellow in the Institute for National Strategic Studies at National Defense University. Previously he was the director of the Center for Technology and National Security Policy at NDU. Wells completed more than 51 years of service with the U.S. Department of Defense in June 2014, including duty as principal deputy assistant secretary of defense for networks and information as well as for command, control, communications, and intelligence for two administrations of both parties—first for Democrat Bill Clinton, followed by Republican George W. Bush. Wells also served as acting assistant secretary and DOD chief information officer. In 26 years of naval service, Wells commanded a destroyer squadron and a guided missile destroyer.
Wells was listed by Fortune magazine in 2009 as one of the Top 16 Players of Tech. He received the Woodrow Wilson Award for Distinguished Government Service from Johns Hopkins University and was awarded the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service three times.
