Deadline for photograph entries for ‘Anthology of Appalachian Writers’ is December 15

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The deadline for photographic art that will accompany poems, fiction, creative nonfiction, and essays for Shepherd University’s “Anthology of Appalachian Writers, Crystal Wilkinson Volume XII” is December 15.

The book will deal with contemporary themes and issues about the Appalachian region and the Affrilachian and Appalachian people. Photographs selected for the volume should relate in some respect to the work of Crystal Wilkinson and her coming of age themes and stories about African Americans, mental health issues, Black Lives Matter, Affrilachians, the working class in Appalachia, the environment, and accompanying racial and social issues including the opioid crisis.

Photographs selected for the volume will also be part of a September 2020 Scarborough Library exhibit and a $250 prize will be given to the winning photograph. The “Anthology of Appalachian Writers” is funded by the West Virginia Center for the Book and the Shepherd University Foundation. The Appalachian Writer in Residence Project is funded by the West Virginia Humanities Council.
