SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Speak Story Series, part of Shepherd University Center for Appalachian Studies and Communities, presents storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston on Tuesday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Reynolds Hall. Admission is $12 at the door, with express entry for Speak season ticket holders, and free to Shepherd students with a valid Rambler ID. Speak is for adult audiences. Mature youth are allowed at their guardian’s discretion.
Alston is an internationally acclaimed storyteller, narrator, librettist, and singer who performs in North America and abroad. She has been the host and storyteller for programs of the Philadelphia Orchestra for 29 years. She has made multiple appearances at the Smithsonian Institution, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, National Storytelling Festival, and National Black Storytelling Festival. Alston is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Pew Fellowship in the Arts, the National Storytelling Networks’ Circle of Excellence Award, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Artist of the Year Award.
