SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Scarborough Library now offers parents a more distraction-free experience thanks to new busy bags. The library has four bags that are available at the public services desk.
Dr. Laura Renninger, dean, said the bags are filled with crayons, playing cards, a dry erase board, puzzle books, crossword puzzles, and coloring books. Renninger said any child can use the bags, but they are designed to be most appealing to ages 12 and under.
“The library is the intellectual heart of campus and a comfortable place where people love to congregate,” Renninger said. “Our library team wanted to make our study rooms more family-friendly since many of our students, faculty, staff, and community patrons are parents or guardians. If their children accompany them while they study or do research, we wanted to help by providing them with entertainment that didn’t necessarily involve electronics. We hope it will make the library an even more welcoming place for families, make scheduling time to work in the library a little easier for parents, and make kids excited about visiting the Ruth Scarborough Library.”
Renninger said several library faculty and staff purchased and donated the bags, tags, crayons, and coloring books to make the busy bags.
