SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Department of Social Work is launching a series of online professional development workshops beginning Wednesday, February 10, at 2 p.m. with “Building Resilience among Young Adults with Histories of Trauma” presented by Wendy Baracka, LICSW, Shepherd’s director of Counseling Services.

The Department of Social Work’s professional development workshop series offers continuing education hours to licensed social workers and is designed to provide opportunities for social work students to interact with professional social workers in a shared learning environment. The Department of Social Work has also invited students from schools with which it has 2+2 transfer agreements to participate in the workshop series.

Additional workshops being planned for the semester include a presentation on transgender healthcare and the role of social work advocacy, understanding and working with families of infants with prenatal substance exposure, and exploring the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on social services in the community.

Funding to launch the workshop series was made available through a mini-grant from the Center for Teaching and Learning. For more information, contact Dr. Craig Cline, assistant professor of social work, at ccline@shepherd.edu.
