AUGUST
TRIO Orientation
Join us on August 28th to kick off the 2024-2025 school year! This workshop will be in the Storer Ballroom from 5:30 pm-7:00 pm. Come eat dinner and hear about the fun upcoming workshops.
SEPTEMBER
Dos and Don’ts- Navigating the Semester
Whether you are a new or returning student, come learn some tips and tricks for being successful. This workshop will focus on strategies proven to work for student success. Come hear from personal experience at Shepherd on what worked, and what did not work. This workshop will take place on September 4th and 5th from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm in the TRIO LAB.
Live & Learn Success with TRIO
This workshop will focus on academic success by helping students learn about learning styles and study habits and utilizing resources that can help students overcome barriers to succeed. Come and learn how to schedule tutoring appointments through the Academic Support Center. This workshop will take place on Thursday, September 12th in Library room 256 from 12:25 pm to 1:25 pm.
Graduate School Fair
Join us in the Storer Ballroom on Wednesday, September 18th, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Here is the list of schools that attended last fall, Shepherd University, George Washington University, West Virginia University, Mount St. Mary’s University, Shippensburg University, Millersville University, Salisbury University, Shenandoah University, Bridgewater University, Towson University, Morgan State University, Goucher College and York College of Pennsylvania, Representatives from George Washington University’s Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Nursing along with West Virginia University’s Online Master’s in Digital/Integrated/Data Marketing Communications program.
OCTOBER
Less stress, more zest
Join counseling services and TRIO on Thursday, October 3rd at 11:00 AM in the Scarborough Library in Room 256 for a workshop about mental health and ensuring you care for yourself!
This workshop will focus on the following:
- Symptoms of common college mental health challenges
- How do college students cope with stress?
- What are some good self-care strategies that enhance wellness?
- Action steps to improve social, emotional, and mental wellbeing
- Mental health Support & Resources available on campus/off-campus***Pop-up interactive; social connection activity
Young & Debt Free (Finacial Literacy)
MJ Bridge, also known as “Mr. Young and Debt Free,” is coming to Shepherd University on Saturday, October 12th. This financial literacy event will occur in the Scarborough Library – Byrd Center Auditorium at 9 am. Come learn about how to eliminate debt, stay out of debt, and build financial wealth. ALL TRIO students are encouraged to attend!
Founders Day Event
Come join the TRIO Student Support Services march on Founders Day, Friday, October 18th, at 3:30 pm in front of McMurran Hall. All TRIO students are encouraged to attend. More information to come!!!
Career Quest & Major Mapping (Are you in the right major?)
“Join TRIO & the Office of Career Services for an exciting interactive activity designed to help you discover the major and career path for YOU! Through engaging exercises, insightful discussions, and tailored guidance, you’ll explore your interests, strengths, and values to identify academic and professional opportunities that align with your passions. Whether you’re undecided or considering a change, this session will empower you to make informed decisions about your future. Don’t miss this chance to gain clarity and confidence on your educational and career journey!” This workshop will take place on Tuesday, October 22, from 1:50 to 3:05 pm in Library room 256.
Advising
Reach out to your TRIO Advisor to schedule a meeting to discuss Class options for the Spring 2025 semester! TRIO advising meetings will begin on October 22nd until you can register for classes on November 11th at 9:00 AM. Look for an email from your TRIO Advisor!
NOVEMBER
First Generation Day
First Generation Day is recognized on November 8th. More details to come for this event!
Hamilton (Day trip to Philly)
Join Shepherd University TRIO SSS and Upward Bound programs on November 9th for a trip to the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, PA, to see Hamilton. Dinner and ticket to the show is paid for by TRIO. Pack a lunch! Limited space is available, so sign up soon. The bus will leave Shepherd University at 8:30 am in front of the Scarborough Library. The show is at 1:30 pm, and Dinner will be provided afterward by the TRIO Programs.
TRIO Students Priority Registration
Starting November 11th at 9:00 AM, TRIO SSS Students are able to sign up for Spring 2025 Classes! Be sure to meet with your TRIO Advisor beforehand to receive your PIN Number so you can register for classes.

DECEMBER
Finals Week
Finals week is December 9-13. This is when you will take your final exams for this semester’s classes. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO WHEN YOUR TEST MAY BE. THEY COULD DIFFER FROM NORMAL CLASS TIME.
