SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — For New Year’s Eve, New York City has its dazzling, lighted ball that drops from One Times Square—and Martinsburg has a shiny red apple descending in its town square. The Shepherd University Martinsburg Center and Main Street Martinsburg invite everyone to celebrate the coming of the new year in downtown Martinsburg on Friday, December 31, from 4:30-6 p.m., when the apple will drop.
This family-friendly event is designed so small children and families can experience the festivities of New Year’s Eve without staying up until midnight. The Apple Drop will include free donuts, music, and giveaways. New this year will be the Shepherd University and Main Street Martinsburg coloring contest sponsored by First United Bank & Trust. Shepherd will distribute noisemakers, while supplies last.
“This is a great example of the commitment that Shepherd has made to provide education and activities designed to improve the quality of life in our community,” said Jim Klein, Martinsburg Center director and School of Graduate and Professional Studies marketing director. “I see events like this as a great opportunity to help the public realize the full range of programs and degrees offered by Shepherd’s School of Graduate and Professional Studies, which includes seven master’s degrees, one doctoral degree, multiple non-degree certificates, education professional development, and a host of programs through Lifelong Learning.”
For more information about Shepherd’s graduate studies, visit the Graduate Studies website. Information about the Apple Drop is available on the Martinsburg Center Facebook event page.
