SHEPHERDSTOWN, WVShepherd University students and employees are teaming up for the Our Campus Cares (OCC) initiative.

Shepherd University’s Division of Student Affairs and Office of Student Community Services developed the initiative to unite everyone on campus to give back to the community.

“The OCC initiative continues to unite in Shepherd’s tradition of service by highlighting specific causes each semester,” according to Melanie Ford, Shepherd’s coordinator of student community services. “As a unified campus, we can make a difference in the lives of others.”

Organizers set four goals for giving through the initiative: to collect 100 Thanksgiving food baskets for Berkeley Senior Services, to receive 100 toys for a local toy drive, to fulfill 25 Angel Tags for local children, and to fill 25 stockings for middle school-aged children through the Salvation Army.

Ford said the OCC initiative offers several different ways to donate so everyone has the chance to take part.

“We have different ways to give,” Ford said. “Shop yourself and drop items off at the Student Center or donate online. We ask that you indicate which initiative you are donating toward, and we’ll shop for you.”

The deadline for donations to the Thanksgiving Food Baskets is November 18.

The toy drive items, all Angel tags, and stockings must arrive at the Student Center, Suite 216, by December 6.
