Biology
The biology program at Shepherd University prepares students for professional training, graduate study, careers in biological research, and teaching. Class sizes are small and faculty are committed to providing personal attention to assist students in achieving their career goals.
The program provides students with opportunities to work directly with research equipment in laboratory courses. Because nearly all courses have an associated laboratory component and these classes are small, all students try techniques used in the workplace. Junior and senior biology majors often complete internships in which they participate in the design, conducting and reporting on a research project. Many of these projects are done at one of several national research laboratories located near Shepherd University; others are done with faculty in a campus laboratory.
