In 1815, Conrad Shindler purchased the property and home that now houses the George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War. While we have uncovered some history about one of Shepherdstown’s prominent 19th century coppersmiths, not much is known about his wife, Elizabeth.
Recent Shepherd University graduate and history major in the Civil War/Nineteenth Century America concentration, Melanie Garvey, dove into the past and uncovered some information to shed some light on Elizabeth Shindler.
