Sans Merci
Sans Merci is an award-winning annual magazine featuring works of writing and art by Shepherd students. Founded in 1976, the magazine’s history makes it a special legacy program on campus. The magazine is entirely run by teams of student editors in the Department of English and Modern Languages and the Department of Contemporary Art and Theater. The deadline for submissions is every fall.
Literary Submissions: Sans Merci looks for literary submissions of nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and drama. There is usually a maximum of 3,500 words per submission. Submissions should include the student’s name, a short bio, e-mail address, and academic year on the cover letter only. Acceptable files are .docx and .pdf. There is no entry fee, and submissions are limited to five entries per person. The deadline for submissions usually falls during the week after fall semester exams. Submit writing to sans.merci.mag@gmail.com.
Art Submissions: Sans Merci highlights a vast range of visual artwork from Shepherd students. Submissions may be from any medium or style, as long as the work can translate into a print format (for example, film stills may be submitted from time-based work, or photo documentation of sculptural work). Images of the work should be formatted as JPEGs @ 300 ppi, longest edge at 10 inches or less. Submit work to sansmerciart@gmail.com.
