Community Friendship Program
Join our Community Friendship Program – community friends are needed at Shepherd University!
A community friend/family can take many forms – it can be a single individual or a family of fifteen! A community friend/family is an individual or family in the local Shepherdstown or Martinsburg area that serves as a friend to an international student studying at Shepherd. Students studying here from abroad often find themselves overwhelmed culturally and socially. A community friend/family helps ease the homesickness and anxiety international students face.
A Community Friend is:
- A local friend
- Someone with knowledge of the area
- Warm and welcoming
- A source of information
- An introduction to the region’s culture
- A help in adjusting to the community
- A source of fun and relaxation
Note: A community friend is NOT someone to house and/or feed a student.
If you would be interested in welcoming one of Shepherd University’s international students into your family, please contact Ms. Emily Liu, at yliu@shepherd.edu.
We are always looking for international students to participate in the Community Friendship Program!
