Dr. Jason Strunk
Dr. Jason Strunk serves as Visiting Director of Choral and Vocal Activities at Shepherd University. He conducts Camerata, Chamber Singers and the Masterworks Chorale. He holds a D.M.A. in Choral Conducting with a cognate in Musicology from the University of Miami Frost School of Music, an M.S. in Music Education from Towson University, and a B.A. in Music form Mansfield University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Strunk most recently served as Performing Arts Department Chair and Director of Choral and Vocal Studies at the Georgetown Day School (GDS) in Washington, DC. Prior to his appointment at GDS, he was in graduate residency at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, where he taught in the Experiential Music Curriculum, served as director of operations for the Choral Studies program, and was the assistant conductor for the internationally acclaimed Frost Chorale.
Dr. Strunk is an active clinician and guest conductor. He has been on the podium throughout Europe and the United States in notable venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Washington National Cathedral, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In addition to conference presentations, Dr. Strunk recently served as a guest lecturer at St. Ursula Gymnasium in Freiburg, Germany, speaking on music, power, and American politics. Further, he was recently conducted Haydn’s Missa in angustiis (Mass in Troubled Times) at Carnegie Hall. Aside from his guest conducting, Dr. Strunk is also the Artistic Director of Renatum, a D.C. based professional chamber choir.
Strunk is also an active performer, with recent appearances as soloist include Messiah (Miami Civic Chorale) and Faure’s Requiem (Covenant Choral Society). Additionally, Dr. Strunk been seen in concert and stage works with Andrea Bocelli, Brad Oscar, Walter Charles, Linda Eder, Liz Callaway, and M. Knight Shyamalan.
