Shawn Buck
Clarinetist Shawn Buck received his undergraduate and graduate training at the Peabody Conservatory and Manhattan School of Music respectively. His teachers include some true legends of the clarinet world: Ignatius N. Gennusa—himself a student of the legendary Danial Bonade, and Principal Clarinet of the Chicago Symphony under Rafel Kubelik; Peter Simenauer—Associate Principal Clarinet/E-flat Clarinet of the New York Philharmoninc under Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Metha, and Kurt Mazur; and finally Kalmen Opperman—renowned NYC based clarinet pedagogue.
Mr. Buck presently holds the positions of Principal Clarinet of The Apollo Orchestra, based in Washington DC, as well as Principal Clarinet of the Manassas Ballet Theater Orchestra. Before this he served as the Solo E-flat Clarinetist of the United States Air Force Concert Band, and also as a member of The United States Air Force Woodwind Quintet in Washington, DC. An active freelance musician in the Washington, DC/Baltimore Metro area, Shawn also performs with many of the area’s regional orchestras, including The Maryland Symphony, Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra, Opera in Williamsburg, Baltimore Choral Arts Society, and Opera Camerata of Washington. Additionally, Mr. Buck has done extensive studio recording for numerous music publishers, including Alfred Publishing, Belwin Mills, and C.L. Barnhouse.
