SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Agricultural Innovation Center at Tabler Farm is hosting a series of free mini seminars designed to help aspiring or active produce farmers improve their businesses. Each seminar, which is free for farmers, costs $10 general admission, and $5 for Shepherd students and employees, will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. in Shepherd’s Student Center Potomac Room, 210 N. King St., Shepherdstown, West Virginia. An option to attend virtually will be available.
The seminars planned are:
- Wednesday, February 28—Emily Morrow with WVU Extension will present “Planning Your Agricultural Enterprise.” The workshop will cover topics such as how to create business plans, land acquisition, and what grants and loans are available.
- Wednesday, March 6—Madison Hale, Tabler Farm coordinator, will present “Record Keeping and Finance Tracking.” Hale will discuss tools that are available and suggestions to better manage a farming business.
- Wednesday, March 13—Dr. Brooke Comer, assistant professor of environmental science, will discuss marketing and advertising. Comer will talk about ideas for displays, packaging, and branding with free, user-friendly tools.
The seminars are being offered in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture and the Veterans and Hero’s to Agriculture program.
