SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Thanks to generous support from the President’s Club, Shepherd University’s Career Services recently launched a series of career panels designed to help Shepherd students explore various career paths and connect with professionals.

The first two panels held this month gave students insights into social services and business careers, drawing strong student engagement and fostering valuable networking opportunities.

On November 7, the Social Services Career Panel highlighted rewarding pathways in human services, featuring Caroline Wilson, LSW, case manager at Berkeley County C.O.R.E.; Taylor L. Staubs, MSW, LSW, director and CAC supervisor at Victoria’s House Child Advocacy Center; Rita Pauley, MA, LSW, vice president of operations at PSIMED; and Nicole Roehm, director of outreach services at Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center.

Moderated by Matt Hoffman, director of career services, the panelists shared their experiences in case management, advocacy, and behavioral health.

The Business Career Panel on November 12 included panelists Emma Pedraza, client coordinator at Bank of Charles Town; Liam Redding, director of revenue operations at Network Optix; Cheryl Ellmore, an executive with over 25 years of experience in the payments industry; Tessa Sawyers, marketing director at FedTec; and Charles Kiser Jr., founder of Matewan Digital Holdings. Luis Mercado, Jr., who oversees externships in the School of Business, moderated a vibrant discussion covering career paths in marketing, finance, and banking.

Students engaged with panelists to gain important career advice and network before and after both events.

Career Services plans to host additional career panels in the spring to help students explore different career paths.
