SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Department of Music is hosting a night of jazz at the Frank Center Theater on Tuesday, November 4, at 8 p.m. with the Shepherd University Jazz Ensembles and Lab Band and the Jazz Combos. A wide range of music will be performed, featuring works by Basie, Radiohead, Keezer, Brookmeyer, and many more.
The Jazz Ensembles and Lab Band are under the direction of Dr. Kurtis Adams, assistant professor of music and director of jazz studies. Kevin Pace, adjunct music professor, directs the Jazz Combos.
The Shepherd University Jazz Ensemble has performed throughout the East Coast and Europe and is in great demand as a feature band in jazz festivals around the globe. Invited to the world-renowned Montreux Jazz Festival in 2003, the Jazz Ensemble played throughout Switzerland and Italy on a nine-day concert tour. In the United States it has been featured at the Longwood, the Blue Ridge, and the East Coast Jazz Festivals, as well as at regional festivals throughout Virgina, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey. The ensemble was recently featured in the Friends of Music annual Tuxedo Junction gala in May.
