SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Dr. Ann Marie Legreid, dean of Shepherd University’s School of Business and Social Sciences, has been elected to the Board of Directors of Phi Beta Delta, Honor Society for International Scholars.
“Representation on an international board is a very exciting opportunity for me and for Shepherd,” Legreid said. “It is another means for Shepherd to engage with the global academic community, to expand relationships outside of the U.S., and to build connections with other chapters and with alums.”
Legreid expects her new role will add to the momentum at Shepherd to beef up the university’s international initiatives by working in partnership with the International Initiatives and Study Abroad offices, international student groups, and new Global Studies B.A. program.
“This is bound to produce new ideas for programs, activities, and fundraising,” Legreid said. “Most importantly, work with the board celebrates and highlights the achievements of our students and faculty, and that’s incredibly rewarding.
Legreid is the coordinator for Shepherd’s chapter of Phi Beta Delta, Theta Epsilon, and serves as vice president for the Southeastern Region of the society.
Phi Beta Delta recognizes scholarly achievement in international education and is open to students, staff, and faculty who have demonstrated excellence as teachers, mentors, leaders, and learners. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the society which is led by a board of directors and is headquartered at Cal State, San Bernardino. The board oversees scholarship and awards programs, coordinates an annual international conference, publishes scholarly work, guides in the development of new chapters, and serves as a resource for international education for more than 180 chapters around the world.
