May 22 event to focus on human trafficking

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force, the Shepherdstown and Martinsburg Rotary Clubs, and the Shenandoah Women’s Center are sponsoring a lecture titled “Facing the Monster of Human Trafficking” and panel discussion on Tuesday, May 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Student Center Storer Ballroom. The program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

The guest speaker will be Carol Hart Metzker, author of “Facing the Monster: How One Person Can Fight Child Slavery.” Her talk will be followed by a panel discussion with J. Robert Leslie, West Virginia senior deputy attorney general; Katie Spriggs, executive director of the Shenandoah Women’s Center; and Penny Kay Hoeflinger, a human trafficking survivor, author, and founder of Coffee House Farm.
