SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Performing Arts Series at Shepherd (PASS) is offering three events during the fall semester, beginning with the 21st Annual Appalachian Heritage Festival Concert. The festival’s showcase concert will take place Saturday, October 1, at 8 p.m. in the Frank Center Theater and will feature performances by the Davis & Elkins College Appalachian Ensemble, singer-songwriter John Lilly, harmony singing with Shepherdstown residents Than and Mary Anne Hitt, and the Ambassadors of Christ Gospel Choir.
The Davis & Elkins College Appalachian Ensemble is a student performance group led by string band director Emily Miller and dance director Emily Oleson. The group, which is composed entirely of students, is dedicated to bringing live traditional music and dance to audiences in West Virginia and beyond. It features an acoustic string band and a team of dancers. John Lilly, who will emcee the show, is a traditional and country musician based on Charleston. The Ambassadors of Christ is from Asbury United Methodist Church of Shepherdstown. The Ambassadors of Christ is a dedicated group of vocalists who are passionate about worshiping God through music. Singing a mixture of traditional and contemporary gospel music, the singers are also known for their stirring renditions of a cappella spirituals. Tickets are $15 for general admission; $10 for Shepherd staff and senior citizens; $5 for children under 18; and free for Shepherd students with a valid Rambler ID.
Gravity & Other Myths will perform “A Simple Space” on Thursday, November 3, at 8 p.m. in the Frank Center Theater. The award-winning Australian circus ensemble performs an acrobatic show that is both highly physical and theatrical. Tickets are $15 for general admission; $10 for Shepherd staff and senior citizens; $5 for children under 18; and free for Shepherd students with a valid Rambler ID.
The Red Hoop Pow Wow returns to Shepherd on Saturday, November 12, from noon-6 p.m. at the Shepherd University Student Center. This All-Nations pow wow will feature dancers and singers from several states representing several Native American tribes. Admission is $5 for adults; $3 for children; and free for Shepherd students with a valid Rambler ID.
