SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s School of Music Community Music division is taking registrations for its spring semester early childhood music classes for children 18 months-5 years and adult piano lessons.
The early childhood music classes, with a caregiver, will take place on Friday mornings, January 17-March 20, 2020, in the Frank Center. Children will experience songs, rhythm games, acoustic instruments, and Orff instruments. The two classes offered are Musical Discoveries for 18 months-3 years old from 9:15-10 a.m. and Music for Preschoolers for ages 3-5 from 10-10:45 a.m. Tuition for each class is $140.
Adult piano classes with instructor Susan Petzold-Carpenter, adjunct music professor, will take place on Wednesdays, January 29-April 8, 2020, in the Frank Center. There will be no class on March 18 due to Shepherd’s spring break. These classes are geared to adults who have always wanted to learn to play the piano and for those who used to play but would like to refresh their skills. Three levels of classes will be offered, based on the student’s piano playing ability—Level I: no note-reading or keyboard experience, Wednesdays, 4:15-5:15 p.m.; Level III: knowledge of treble/bass clef, hands together keyboard experience, Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30 p.m.; and Advanced Adult Piano Fun-Grad School: previous three levels or 1-2 years of keyboard lessons, Wednesdays, 6:45-7:45 p.m. Tuition is $120 for those who register before January 15 and $130 for registrations after January 15.
