Rude Mechanicals to present two plays written by English alumni

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WVShepherd University’s Rude Mechanicals Medieval and Renaissance Players are scheduled to perform two plays written by alumni of the English program.

“When the Bolt of Cupid Fell,” written by Olyvia Thompson, takes the audience through the backstage and onstage drama of a community theater company’s performance of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  

“The Poet and the Muse,” written by LaShawn Taylor, provides a behind-the-scenes look as “Bachelor” Bill Shakespeare chooses his muse from among a dramatic range of contestants, including Juliet and Lady Macbeth. 

The plays will be performed back-to-back for a total run time of 80 minutes. The performances will take place in Reynolds Hall July 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. 

The Rude Mechanicals Medieval and Renaissance Players is a Shepherd University theater troupe that produces ancient Greek, Renaissance, and medieval drama as well as short plays written by English students and alumni.
