SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University’s theater department will present a student production this semester that focuses on the issue of rape on college campuses.
Auditions for Paul Downs Colaizzo’s “Really Really” will take place August 27 and 28 from 6-8 p.m. at the Center for Contemporary Arts, room 112.
Ed Herendeen, professor of theater, will direct the play which focuses on college students who attend an elite university and their actions at a party where heavy drinking and a possible rape occur.
“This timely new play, somehow ripped from the headlines, deals with life on contemporary college campuses,” Herendeen said. “This play will provide the Shepherd University campus community with a forum to discuss the issues surrounding dating, and when does no mean no, that many university students encounter in modern dating.”
Herendeen said most of the characters in the play are in their early 20s with the exception of an older sister, who is in her early 30s. He’s looking for four men and three women to play the following roles:
-
Cooper: College student, rugby team, likes to party.
-
Grace: College student, future leader, a wealthy student, Leigh’s roommate.
-
Jimmy: College student, rugby team.
-
Johnson: College student, a nerd.
-
Leigh: A poor college student, Jimmy’s girlfriend.
-
Davis: A wealthy college student, rugby team, Cooper’s roommate
-
Haley: Leigh’s older sister
Performances for “Really Really” are scheduled in the Marinoff Theater November 6-8 at 8 p.m., November 9 at 2 p.m., November 12–15 at 8 p.m., and November 16 at 2 p.m.
