SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — Shepherd University students and alumni can participate in the annual CareerFest Job and Internship Fair on Wednesday, March 4 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Wellness Center. At least 81 employers have signed up to participate in the event which is hosted by the Advising Assistance Center.
The list of employers participating includes those from the areas of government, health care, technology, education, law enforcement, manufacturing, and more.
Radka Ferancova, Advising Assistance Center career adviser, said the goal of the event is to give employers from the area the opportunity to identify potential employees and interns.
“We know that we have very talented students and alumni at Shepherd, and we know our graduates are highly sought out by regional employers,” Ferancova said. “I hope participating employers will walk away from this program with great applicants for their positions.”
Ferancova said CareerFest also gives students and alumni a chance to meet employers they’re already interested in and learn about others they weren’t aware of.
“Students are often surprised with the variety of industries that are represented at events like this, so one concept I hope is highlighted with this program is how marketable a liberal arts education is across many different job fields,” Ferancova said. “I hope students use this chance to create new contacts, network, and gain experience in presenting themselves in a professional manner in the workplace.”
The Advising Assistance Center has been conducting workshops, making classroom presentations, and offering individual appointments for the past several weeks to help students prepare for this event.
“We hope attending students and alumni who attend CareerFest bring plenty of copies of their updated résumés and dress professionally as they would for a job interview,” Ferancova said.
