What is the STEM scholarship program at Shepherd University?
The STEM scholarship is a program sponsored by the $1.5 million 6-year grant from National Science Foundation to provide financial assistance and supportive services for academically talented and financially needy students who are pursuing their studies in certain degree programs at Shepherd University.
What degree programs should I be in to qualify?
All students in CIS (Computer Information Sciences), CIT (Computer Information Technology), Mathematics, CPE (Computer Engineering), Engineering, Engineering Sciences, and DATA (Data Analytics) are all encouraged to apply. Both in-state and out-of-state students are qualified.
What are the benefits of the program?
Students in the program will be awarded financial assistance, up to $10, 000 per year for a maximum of four years for first-year students, or two years for transfer students.
Students in the program will also be provided supporting services such as academic mentoring and career counseling.
What are my commitments if I get awarded?
Students in the program must maintain a 3.0 GPA or above. Students are required to participate in S-STEM events such as club activities and invited speaker series. Scholar students are also expected to fill out annual report forms.
What if I change my major?
The current NSF S-STEM grant at Shepherd University only supports students in the majors of CIS, CIT, Mathematics, CPE, Engineering, Engineering Sciences, and Data Analytics.
What if I transfer to another institution?
Students will lose their eligibility for Shepherd University S-STEM scholarship when they transfer to another institution.
Can international students apply?
The S-STEM scholarship only supports citizens, permanent residents, or admitted refugees of the United States.
