Spring 2023 White Coat Ceremony

Congratulations to the BSN class of December 2024 for participating in the White Coat ceremony on February 10, 2023!

Fall 2022 White Coat Ceremony

The School of Nursing hosted a White Coat ceremony for the BSN class of May 2024 on September 16, 2022.

Spring 2022 White Coat Ceremony

The School of Nursing hosted a White Coat ceremony for the BSN class of December 2023 on January 11, 2022. Forty-five BSN students received their white coats.

Fall 2021 White Coat Ceremony

The School of Nursing hosted a White Coat ceremony for the BSN class of May 2023 and DNP class of 2024 on August 20, 2021. Forty-four BSN students and seven DNP students received their white coats.

Spring 2021 White Coat Ceremony

The School of Nursing held its White Coat Ceremony on January 29, 2021 for the incoming BSN students. Dr. Michael Groves, Associate Professor for the School of Nursing, was the keynote speaker.

White Coat Ceremony History

On October 3, 2014, Shepherd University’s Department of Nursing Education took part in it’s first White Coat Ceremony. Shepherd University is one of 100 schools across the country, and the only school in West Virginia, chosen to take part in this new initiative. The White Coat Ceremony was designed by The Arnold P. Gold Foundation for physicians and surgeons as a rite of passage at medical schools. The Gold Foundations is teaming with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing to make the White Coat Ceremony a tradition for nursing students as well. Each semester Shepherd’s new nursing students will participate in this initiative where the students will recite an oath, be cloaked in a white coat, and will receive a pin.
