“How to Write a Christmas Movie”
Guest speaker and local screenwriter Brian Ruberry shared his experience with Shepherd University and the Shepherdstown community in writing Christmas movies for networks like Lifetime, Hallmark, and Great American Country. After years of rejection, Brian honed his skills and discovered his talent for writing made-for-TV Christmas movie scrips and now writes for multiple networks annually. It was a festive opportunity to gain insight from an industry insider about screenwriting for network television and not giving up on your pursuits.

“Writing in Wonderland”
On the McMurran Hall lawn on the Shepherd University campus, the Shepherd University National Writing Project hosted an event for an Alice in Wonderland tea party and writing experience. Elementary students, parents and teachers were welcome to participate in a celebration of the magic of writing with a Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland theme. Students decorated teacups, wrote nonsense poems and more!
“Summer Institute”
Guest speaker Sara Henning, the award-winning poet and author of View from the True North, Terra Incognita, and the upcoming book Burn, shared her experiences with the joys of writing and teaching with local teachers.
