Events Schedule
NO EVENTS CURRENTLY SCHEDULED
The Shepherd University Observatory will host occasional Astronomy Open House Nights during the Fall and Spring academic semesters (WEATHER AND STAFF PERMITTING), which will be free and open to the public. The Observatory will also host special public astronomy events as appropriate.
The Observatory is not heated, so visitors will wish to wear layers (as the Observatory is on the roof of the Byrd Center for Legislative Studies). Our security arrangements require us to have Observatory workers escort people to the roof in small groups. We appreciate your patience in this matter.
Since observations cannot be made at the Observatory in inclement weather (clouds, haze, rain, snow), the Astronomy Open House will be cancelled if there is inclement weather. Cancellations will be posted on the Observatory Information Line and this site no later than 6 p.m. on the night of the scheduled Astronomy Open House. You might also wish to check the local weather in Shepherdstown before coming to the Observatory.
