Chapter Awards
Phi Kappa Phi Scholarships and Awards
Each year Phi Kappa Phi awards scholarships to help students fund their first year of study in graduate or professional school. About 50 Graduate Fellowships (worth $8,000) and 30 Awards of Excellence (worth $1,500) are available to the winners of the national competition. Each chapter of Phi Kappa Phi is allowed to submit the application of one student to each year’s competition. Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants exist to recognize scholarly endeavors. They are designed specifically to recognize and assist undergraduates as they seek knowledge abroad. Thirty-eight grants, valued at $1,000 each, are awarded annually.
Fellowship Selection Procedure at Shepherd University
Students currently enrolled at Shepherd University are eligible for the fellowship competition if they have been inducted as members of Phi Kappa Phi or if they are likely to be invited for membership before they graduate. If students have a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or above, they will most likely be invited for membership. Phi Kappa Phi members who have already graduated are also eligible to apply. Candidates must have applied to a graduate or professional school program for the next academic year.
Our chapter may forward only one student’s application to the national competition. Thus, the Phi Kappa Phi Chapter Graduate Fellowship Committee, composed of three members of Phi Kappa Phi from Shepherd’s faculty and staff, will submit the application of the student that it deems most impressive. The Phi Kappa Phi Chapter Graduate Fellowship Committee strongly urges each student who applies to work closely with a faculty member when completing the application.
