From Dr. Lovelace…
The Department of Psychological Sciences at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky is seeking applicants to its M.S. in Psychology – Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology concentration. Our program is one of the Top Ten Master’s in I/O Psychology programs in the U.S. according to the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP; SIOP Ranked Top Programs).
The I/O Psychology Master’s Concentration is a 2-year, 42 credit hour program which includes a summer internship between the first and second years for students to gain hands-on, real world experience! Our program is designed for students seeking preparation as practitioners in business, industry, service organizations, consulting firms, or government agencies; however students seeking Ph.D. study have also been highly successful. In the last 5 years, 100% of our students received financial support through assistantships and/or tuition waivers.
The objective of the concentration is the development of marketable skills in the areas of test construction and validation, personnel selection and placement, performance appraisal, and training. Work motivation, job satisfaction, and organizational development techniques are also studied. The development of applied skills is achieved through the integration of practical experience and formal course work. Our program adheres to a scientist-practitioner model of training. Students learn to evaluate and apply theory and research to advance practical, data driven solutions in assisting organizations and their employees. The curriculum is designed to advance graduate students’ quantitative and methodological skills, to bolster knowledge in the core areas of I/O psychology, and to foster professional development.
Many graduates of the program have gone on to lucrative careers in Fortune 500 companies and government, including Dollar General, UPS, and Louisville Metro. A recent survey of program alumni indicate that the majority of our graduates obtain full-time employment in the field within 3-months of graduating! In addition, we boast a 100% success rate for graduate students seeking further study through Ph.D. programs in I/O Psychology!

This is part of the state-funded Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) at WVU. You’ll spend the summer working with a faculty member. Before applying contact undergradresearch@mail.wvu.edu for assistance with finding a faculty research mentor.
Here’s a link to what’s available in behavioral science: https://www.psyc-reu-wvu.com/

From Dr. Lovelace:
Here’s some information I received about the Master’s program in Applied Psychology from Shippensburg University up in PA:
Shippensburg University is located in south central Pennsylvania and our graduate program began in 1981, although now the M.S. in Applied Psychology is 100% online (asynchronous) and can be completed in 1 year of full-time study or 2 years on a part-time basis.
The program emphasizes the application of psychological principles and methodologies to real-world problems. The majority of our graduates enter fields where they assume research-related roles (e.g., program evaluation, survey researcher, data analyst, quality control specialist, etc.) across a variety of sectors in business/industry, government, and non-profit settings. In addition, there are two specialties that students can pursue; they have the option of pursuing a Six Sigma blackbelt certification if they have specific interests in quality control careers, or they can earn a Behavior Specialist Certificate which provides advanced coursework in applied behavioral analysis for those interested in working with individuals with learning, social, or developmental impairments (e.g., autism).
Remote assistantships are available on a competitive basis, although contingent on university funding. Students interested in our program can visit the following link for detailed information:

Priority applications are due today, but they’ll continue to accept applications until they have no more space for students…
Frostburg State University’s Master of Science Counseling Psychology program prepares students to work in the field of mental health as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC.) Our program is affordable, accredited by the Master’s in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC) and built upon empirically supported counseling techniques, with an emphasis on cultural responsiveness. Considerable attention is given to both the acquisition of counseling skills and the professional development of the student. We offer small classes with individualized attention from faculty. Two emphases are offered: Addictions and Child and Family. The program also includes a one-year internship where you will gain up to 1,000 hours of supervised clinical field experience.
We are often asked why a student should choose FSU over other programs. The highlights below provide just a few reasons.
Counseling Psychology Highlights:
- 99% pass rates on the National Counseling Examination
- Three-year program – 2 years of instruction followed by a year-long internship
- Graduate with 630 – 1,000 hours of supervised clinical experience
- Two areas of emphasis embedded into the program – Addictions Counseling and Child and Family Counseling
- Research opportunities available
- Small cohorts and individualized faculty attention
- Faculty who hold terminal degrees in their field and have relevant and extensive experience in the field including areas such as dating violence, sexual abuse, substance abuse, brief therapy, family therapy, behavioral analysis and family behavior

The Summer Treatment Program (STP) provides services to children with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Conduct Disorder, Oppositional-Defiant Disorder, learning problems, and related behavior problems. The program provides treatment tailored to children’s individual behavioral and learning difficulties. The Center for Children and Families is directed by William E. Pelham, Jr., Ph.D., who is a Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry. Greg Fabiano, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology, oversees the Center for Children and Families of Western New York.
By participating in the STP, students will:
- Learn evidence-based techniques for working with children who have disruptive behavior disorders
- Gain valuable clinical and research experience to prepare for career and graduate school
- Help children to improve their social skills, sports skills, and academic skills
- Network with faculty members at the Center for Children and Families, as well as students from across the country.
Positions are available in three related programs serving children between the ages of 3-12. In each program, children and counselors are assigned to groups of four or five counselors and 10 to 15 children of similar age. Children participate in a variety of classroom-based and recreational activities. Staff members implement an extensive behavior modification treatment program during all program activities. The behavior modification program includes feedback and associated consequences for positive and negative behaviors, daily and weekly rewards for appropriate behavior, social praise and attention, appropriate commands, and age-appropriate removal from positive reinforcement. Staff members will also be responsible for recording, tracking, and entering daily records of children’s behavior and response to the treatment. Staff members will work under the supervision of experienced faculty and staff members and will receive regular feedback about their performance.
Experience in the STP may be helpful to prepare students for further study or employment in the fields of education, mental health, physical education, pediatrics, psychiatry, recreational therapy, behavior analysis, social work, counseling, and related areas. Staff members have uniformly reported the experience to be the most demanding but also the most rewarding clinical experience of their careers.

I am reaching out to you, because we are experiencing a staffing shortage at the Martinsburg Parole Office. We currently have two Parole Officer positions to fill and have had no luck doing so. Our starting pay is not great, but it does come with some built in raises over a period of time. As with other state employment, it does come with paid holidays, sick leave, annual leave and insurance benefits. With December graduations approaching, I thought you may have some students that would be looking for work in their field. The position does require a bachelor’s degree; however, they can still apply if they have not yet received a diploma but are within a short time frame of receiving it. If you know of anyone that would be interested in this position please let them know to get on the registry soon. They can also watch for the “Parole Officer I” position postings on the DOP website. They will be pulling for the next round of interviews shortly after the holiday. You are welcome to pass along my email address or phone number to them if they have any additional questions.
Thank you very much for your time. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

P.S. The WVDCR is experiencing statewide staffing issues as a whole. If anyone is willing to work at a facility there are numerous positions available in a wide range of classes (correctional officer on up).
