Shepherd Community Big Band

Community Music at Shepherd introduces a new ensemble in Fall 2024!

Shepherd Community Big BandThe Shepherd Community Big Band is a large jazz ensemble designed for intermediate to advanced high school musicians, grades 9-12, wanting to perform in a high-level jazz big band. The group will meet weekly on Sundays to have full band rehearsals, sectionals and participate in masterclasses given by professional jazz musicians and educators.

Matthew HolmesShepherd University School of Music and Community Music welcomes Matthew Holmes as the new Adjunct Faculty for Double Bass (Jazz) for the 2024-2025 school year. Matt will also serve as one of the Community Big Band directors in the Shepherd Community Music Program.

Tanner Petri The Community Big Band will also be under the leadership of Tanner Petri. Tanner is the Middle School Band and Jazz Band Director for Wildwood Middle School located in Jefferson County, West VirginiaStudents who play applicable instruments are welcome to audition on Sunday, January 26, 2:00-4:00 pm at the Frank Arts Center. Students accepted will perform a concert on Sunday, April 27, 2:00 pm. Rehearsals are weekly on Mondays beginning January 27, 6:00-8:00 pm.

*Participants in the 2025 Annual Honor Music Festival may bring a tune from the Honor Jazz Ensembles concert for the audition.
