Multicultural Student Affairs
The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs helps prepare all Shepherd University students to live, learn, work, and succeed in a diverse society. The Office provides support and guidance to student organizations that promote the needs of underrepresented populations, known as Affinity Groups. Which include the Gender Sexuality Alliance, Global Shepherd Students, Disability Advocacy Group. the Black Student Union, Students for Reproductive Rights, and Shepherd Environmental Organization. The Office also oversees the Multicultural Leadership Team. Each senior listed below is a member of one or more of these groups and has shown leadership throughout their time at Shepherd University.

Maria J. Acevedo-Cabrera
Member of: Multicultural Leadership Team, Global Shepherd Students, Shepherd Environmental OrganizationI am from San Jose, Costa Rica, but my hometown is Shepherdstown, WV. Since I started my journey at Shepherd University, I have been fortunate to be involved in a spectrum of organizations that reflect both my personal interests in supporting my community as well as my professional aspirations. MLT allowed me to use my voice and abilities to help the community, bring awareness of social justice issues, spread diversity across campus, and pushed me to go beyond myself. I would not be where I am today without MLT. The Multicultural Leadership Team will always have a special place in my heart! |

Christopher Hicks
Member of: Black Student Union, Gender-Sexuality AllianceI am a senior sociology major and a psychology minor at Shepherd University. Over the years, I have found that I enjoy participating in various service events as well as acting as an agent of social change. I like to help inspire change by participating in a multitude of different organizations where I can have a time and space to discuss difficult, but necessary, topics and sharing my thoughts with everyone around me. I have found that these conversations and activities not only positively impact myself, but also allow others to expand their own mental horizons and look at the world from a different point of view. |

Valentina Preciado Bello
Member of: Multicultural Leadership Team, Global Shepherd StudentsI’m Valentina Preciado Bello. I’m 22 years old. I was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia and moved to the U.S five years ago. I’m a Business Major with a concentration in Marketing and a Mass Communications minor. I’m going to miss the unconditional support I had from International Student Affairs. They guided and helped me from day one until the end, they became more like my family. I’m also going to miss being a member of the different organizations on campus such as Program Board, Residence Life, Alianza, Globla Shepherd Students, MLT, and the Women’s Tennis Team, that for sure helped me to shape the person I am today. My advice for someone starting college is to take all the opportunities you can and to enroll in many thing as possible, that would help you for career development and will set you up for success! |
