In December 2022, I got the chance to study Spanish in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Although my program was only 3 weeks long, I was able to attend several excursions and visit some of the amazing attractions that the city has to offer. The culture of Buenos Aires especially interested me because it was so different from what I have experienced in a Latin American country before. The heavy influence of Italian culture was certainly evident in their appreciation for pasta, though empanadas were my go-to for any meal. Overall, my experience was unforgettable, and I will definitely be returning to Buenos Aires in the near future for an extended stay!
I got to experience the parade and crowd around the Obelisco monument that followed the World Cup 2022 win. The feeling of unity throughout the entire city during the World Cup games (Semi-finals and Finals) and after the win was something that I have never witnessed before. The cafes and restaurants became viewing sites, the streets were empty, and there was only silence until a goal was scored. I stayed in a central part of town, so I could hear the celebrations after every goal. It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

I decided to study abroad because I have never lived anywhere but in West Virginia. As our world continues to become more connected and globalized than ever before, I have realized how important it is for me to experience as many places and cultures as I can. I chose Scotland because I have never traveled outside of the country before and I wanted somewhere I knew I could be comfortable. I also have Celtic ancestry from Scotland so it was important to me to connect to my roots.
