These positions are only available to Shepherd University students who receive financial aid and qualify for FWS
Openings: Vegetable Production Assistant, Greenhouse Assistant, Administrative Assistant
Part-time: The number of hours students may work in a week is dependent on the FWS award they receive. Students work 7-10 hours /week on average.
Pay rate: $10 /hr
Position overview: Vegetable Production Assistant
The Vegetable Production Assistant is expected to commit to minimum two-days a week at the farm. This is a work-study position; students will work with their supervisor to create a work schedule that best fits their class schedule. The Production Assistant is expected to assist in all necessary vegetable production tasks such as but not limited to: Field preparations, seeding, transplanting, harvesting, washing/packing, weeding. Applicants can expect to perform physical labor outdoors for multiple hours at a time, and work in a variety of weather conditions such as: cold, heat, rain, wind, high humidity, etc.

Position Overview: Greenhouse Assistant
The Tabler Farm Greenhouse Assistant is expected to assist with the seeding, growing, and transplanting of all plants grown in the Tabler Farm greenhouse. The primary season for this position is February-April and August-October. The greenhouse assistant will participate in other farm duties as needed outside of the greenhouse growing season. They will also help with the annual Tabler Farm plant sale at the end of the spring semester. This is a work-study position; students will work with their supervisor to create a work schedule that best fits their class schedule.

Position Overview: Administrative Assistant
The Tabler Farm Administrative Assistant will assist the Tabler Farm Coordinator in a variety of administrative duties such as but not limited to bookkeeping, finance tracking, inventory tracking, communications, among other office duties. This is a work-study position; students will work with their supervisor to create a work schedule that best fits their class schedule.

AmeriCorps Service Member

Two 3-month summer members
Application deadlines:
6-month position deadline: January 17th, 2025
3-month position deadline: April 25th, 2025
Service period:
6-month: March 3rd – August 31st, 2025
3-month: End of May – August 2025
Full-time: Average 40 hrs /week for a minimum total of 900 hours during the 6-month service period and 450 hours during the 3-month period.
Pay-rate: Living stipend of $825 (pre-tax) distributed twice monthly
Additional benefits:
- At successful service completion, the member will receive a Segal Education Award which can be used to pay down existing student debt, or future educational expense. Member has up to 7 years to use this.
- Education award for 6-month member: $3,697.50
- Education award for summer member: $1,956.35
- 6-month members also qualify for the following:
- One semester of tuition waiver at a West Virginia public college.
- Health insurance (if eligible)
- Child Care assistance (if eligible)

Service overview, 6-month member
The 6-month AmeriCorps Member would be responsible for community and university outreach and engagement at Tabler Farm. This includes networking and organizing talks about our program to schools and organizations in our area, scheduling and hosting tours, events, activities, and field trips at and with the farm, and general promotion of our program. The Member would also serve as a leader for any community engagement/educational programs at the farm. The majority of this position is performed outdoors. Weekend availability is required. The Member would be expected to assist in vegetable production, garden maintenance, and other related projects as needed.

Service Overview, Summer Members
The Summer AmeriCorps Members would be responsible for the growing, harvesting, and distribution of produce grown at Tabler Farm. The majority of this position is performed outdoors. Weekend availability is required. Members are expected to be a leader and role model for any volunteers or visitors participating in vegetable production at the farm.
