These positions are only available to Shepherd University students who receive financial aid and qualify for FWS
Openings: Vegetable Production Assistant
Part-time: The number of hours students may work in a week is dependent on the FWS award they receive. Students work 7-10 hours /week on average.
Pay rate: $10 /hr
Position overview: Vegetable Production Assistant
The Vegetable Production Assistant is expected to commit to minimum two-days a week at the farm. One harvest day is highly encouraged. This is a work-study position. Students will work with their supervisor to create a work schedule that best fits their class schedule. The Production Assistant will work alongside the Farm Coordinator and/or any other seasonal farm employees. The Production Assistant is expected to assist in all necessary vegetable production tasks such as but not limited to: Field preparations, seeding, transplanting, harvesting, washing/packing, weeding. The Production Assistant will be trained on the usage of a variety of farm tools and equipment and is expected to use them appropriately. Applicants can expect to perform physical labor outdoors for multiple hours at a time, and work in a variety of weather conditions such as: cold, heat, rain, wind, high humidity, etc.

Pay-rate: Crew Member | $12 /hr | no experience necessary
Pay-rate: Crew Leader | $14 /hr | minimum 1-year experience in small-scale, intensive vegetable production

Position overview: Summer Crew Member
The Summer Crew Member is expected to commit to minimum two-days a week at the farm. One harvest day is required. The Crew Member will work alongside their Crew Leader and will report to the Farm Coordinator. The Crew Member is expected to perform all necessary vegetable production tasks such as but not limited to: Field preparations, seeding, transplanting, harvesting, washing/packing, weeding. The Crew Member will be trained on the usage of a variety of farm tools and equipment and is expected to use them appropriately. Applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs, perform physical labor outdoors for multiple hours at a time, and withstand working in a variety of weather conditions such as: heat, rain, wind, high humidity, etc.
Position Overview: Summer Crew Leader
The Summer Crew Leader is expected to commit to minimum three-days a week at the farm. All harvest days are required. The Crew Leader will work directly with the Farm Coordinator to determine necessary tasks weekly. The Crew Leader will implement tasks with the Summer Crew Members, and ensure all tasks are done properly and effectively. The Crew Leader will be responsible for troubleshooting with their team minor daily set-backs and will report any major difficulties to the Farm Coordinator to determine the appropriate resolution. The Crew Leader is expected to lead and perform all necessary vegetable production tasks such as but not limited to: Field preparations, seeding, transplanting, harvesting, washing/packing, weeding. The Crew Leader will be trained on the usage of a variety of farm tools and equipment and is expected to ensure appropriate usage by all farm workers and volunteers. Applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs, perform physical labor outdoors for multiple hours at a time, and withstand working in a variety of weather conditions such as: heat, rain, wind, high humidity, etc.

Full-time: Average 40 hrs /week for a minimum total of 900 hours during the 6-month service period
Pay-rate: Living stipend of $776.33 (pre-tax) distributed twice monthly

- At successful service completion, the member will receive a Segal Education Award of $3,447.50 which can be used to pay down existing student debt, or future educational expense. Member has up to 7 years to use this.

Service overview
The AmeriCorps Member would be responsible for community and university outreach and engagement at Tabler Farm. This includes networking and organizing talks about our program to schools and organizations in our area, scheduling and hosting tours, events, activities, and field trips at and with the farm, and general promotion of our program. The Member would also serve as a leader for any direct engagement at the farm, leading volunteers and students in their service at the farm production sites. The Member would be expected to assist in vegetable production and other projects as needed.
