Celebrating Our First-Generation College Students
During the week of November 6-8, Shepherd University TRIO Programs will be celebrating our First-Generation College Students.
What Does First-Generation Mean?
A first-generation college student is any student whose parents or legal guardians have not completed a bachelor’s degree. They are the first in their family to attend college. The experiences of these student differ from those that are not first-generation students. Many first-generation students find it hard to navigate the vast landscape of higher education and encounter obstacles that can keep them from being successful.
